A Great Way to Learn ASL!
Gotta admit, until this book ASL was a confusing language, restricted mainly to my wife’s rudimentary knowledge for her work with developmentally disabled blind/deaf folk. Now we have a guide that uses the language of cartoons to demonstrate ASL. The artwork is concise and clearly demonstrates the signing language, so on top of learning how to sign, you also get to enjoy learning in graphic novel form with Hurlbut’s amazing cartoon examples. This is a book that the layman can easily access the world of American Sign Language and should be a mainstay in not only the Educational field but also an easy to follow guide for the general public. Highly recommended.

My ASL Dictionary by Elizabeth Hurlbut is an excellent resource for individuals interested in learning ASL. The detailed graphics and in-depth signs make this dictionary suitable for all ages, and it can serve as a tool to reduce the barriers to learning American Sign Language. Hurlbut has thoughtfully dedicated a page to basic hand shapes, which allow the reader to master the fundamentals of ASL before going on to learn complex signs. This dictionary has the clear potential to allow the reader to learn the vocabulary and signs needed to effectively communicate in ASL. The incorporation of important figures and information about the history of ASL is an unique and wonderful way for readers to appreciate the origins of ASL. My ASL Dictionary is a must read for individuals interested in learning ASL and expanding their knowledge of the language.

Elizabeth Hurlbut’s “My ASL Dictionary” is a great resource for anyone who is interested in learning ASL. Hurlbut begins her work by a detailed introduction on Deaf history, allowing the reader to truly immerse themselves in understanding the importance of the language. Hurlbut’s illustrations and graphics of the signs have made this ASL dictionary like no other. The range of content, from ASL signs, expressions and information about the Deaf culture make this a great foundation for all individuals who are interested in learning this wonderful language.
