The first Kitchens ranged from campfires to open fire pits. It’s no surprise there is more than one ASL hand sign for this Historical Room for Cooking.
My ASL Dictionary cartoon of a Deaf Chef shows the ASL hand sign for COOK. An upgrade to the Dictionary has the Chef also show another ASL hand sign for KITCHEN.
The flat hand slaps down on the palm of the opposite hand to lift, flip over, and land palm up, like flipping a pancake. Depending on context, this sign can also be for KITCHEN.
OR
Another sign for Kitchen is also a Compound Word, blending the signs COOK and ROOM.
