On Page 42 of “My ASL Dictionary”, a cartoon of The Phantom of the Opera. Wearing a dark grimace on his masked face with his dark Victorian jacket, he shows the ASL hand signs for DARK and SHADE.
Palms out, the Flat hands pull down into claws.
