A Scream is often a Child’s first Communication to express Joy, Fear, Pain, or Anger. A Shout that continues into Adulthood, not a Fighting Word, but the bellow that often preludes a Fight.
Created as a hard copy reference for an ASL Story about screaming at Cows, an updated cartoon of myself as a child shows the ASL hand sign for YELL.
The C hand sign over the mouth arcs forwards and upwards. A visual of the loud noise coming from the mouth, the facial expression matching its intensity and reason (furrowed eyebrows for anger or frustration, eyebrows up for fear).
