GREEN WITH ENVY

Colours are often associated with emotions, and since William Shakespeare’s Othello, the colour green has been a visual symbol for sickness and envious jealousy.
Instead of a green-eyed monster, My ASL Dictionary’s cartoon of a Green Crash Test Dummy illustrates ASL hand signs for JEALOUSY. With a resentful face, her mouth also opens to the lip pattern for the SH sound.

The X hand twists near the corner of the mouth.

The tip of the I hand twists at the side of the chin.

Hand lowered to fingerspell the letter J (older variant).

From Deaf History, the index finger was “bit” between the teeth as it moved to the corner of the mouth.
