HALLOWEEN MORNING

Celebrated at night to represent death and darkness, Halloween usually has dark and black costumes for the festivities.
However, when my friend finished my Summer Dress in October, I used it to make a costume for a Summer Witch.

A cartoon of myself dressed in Yellow and Orange, with a painted daisy on my face, shows another ASL hand sign for Halloween.
Cover the face with both hands, the palms slightly curved,
to quickly uncover and cover again, like playing peek-a-boo.

GOBBLE GOBBLE

The peak dish in a Thanksgiving Dinner is Turkey. With a Pilgrim showing THANKSGIVING, a similar hand sign, My ASL Dictionary has a 2013 illustration of a young farm girl in Jean Overalls and a Straw hat to present the hand sign for the bird. With her arm raised slightly higher than in the book, this girl with freckles shows the ASL hand sign for TURKEY.
The Q hand wiggles under the chin, the visual for the red wattle under the Turkey’s beak.

THANKS AND GRATITUDE

Every year during the Fall season is the festival holiday of Thanksgiving, celebrated worldwide by many countries, sometimes on different dates.
For today’s celebration in Canada, MY ASL Dictionary’s 2013 cartoon of a Toronto baseball fan illustrates the ASL hand signs for THANK YOU.
Fingers of the Flat hand near the lips or by the chin arc down towards the person being thanked, like taking gratitude from the lips to give to another.

The Canadian Celebration of the Harvest Festival is the Second Monday of October. The First Thanksgiving for Canada was held in 1578 by Martin Frobisher and his crew in the Eastern Arctic to celebrate and give thanks for their safe arrival at the port of Nunavut.
For this reference, My ASL Dictionary has a cartoon of Martin Frobisher illustrating one of the ASL hand signs for THANKSGIVING.
Both hands sign THANK YOU in a double arc, a combination of the ASL hand signs for THANKS and GIVE.

The American Celebration of the Harvest Festival is the Fourth Thursday of November. The First Thanksgiving for America is the popular pilgrim story of the 1621 Fall Harvest Feast celebrated by the Citizens of Plymouth Colony and the Native Americans of the Wampanoag Confederacy.
For this reference, My ASL Dictionary has a young man in a Pilgrim costume with a bow tie showing one of the ASL hand signs for THANKSGIVING.
Similar to the hand sign for TURKEY (a Thanksgiving Dish), the Q hand is moved from chin to chest, like the wattle on a turkey.

PUMPKIN SPICE

With Halloween approaching and My ASL Dictionary filled with Halloween Monsters showing the ASL hand signs for Mathematical terms, it was time to draw a pumpkin for the jack-o-lantern.
Dressed in Orange makeup and a Jack-o’-Lantern costume, this cartoon of a young woman shows the ASL hand sign for PUMPKIN.
The forefinger and thumb of the 8 hand flicks off the back of the opposite hand twice, like tapping a melon to test its ripeness.
