CHOCOLATE HOLIDAY

July 7, World Chocolate Day, celebrates the day in 1550 when the Cocoa Bean was first introduced in Europe to grow into the highly prized chocolate confection now treasured worldwide. A Dessert deemed so precious, there are 69 Chocolate Holidays in all. As one of my favourite treats, I had to include its ASL hand sign in my dictionary.

The easiest choice to visually represent chocolate would have been the infamous Willy Wonka or Laura Secord if the characters weren’t already in use for the ASL Hand Signs for CANDY, SUGAR, and ADDICTED.

Instead, My ASL Dictionary has a cartoon of actress and comedian Lucille Ball, a character famous for her slapstick comic skit in a Chocolate Factory, illustrating the ASL hand sign for CHOCOLATE.
The Thumb of the C hand circles on the back of the opposite hand twice, like stirring melted chocolate in a pan.
