MAGAZINE COVER

Every artist puts a piece of themselves into their art, as I did with cartoons of myself in My ASL Dictionary and this new illustration.
Dressed in a Timelord outfit for a Doctor Who Convention, my cartoon portrait shows the ASL hand sign for MAGAZINE.
The tip of the G hand’s forefinger and thumb touches the edge of the opposite B hand (palm in) and slides up the hand from heel to fingertips, twice, like the spine of a magazine.

This cartoon is based on an actual costume I made for a Doctor Who convention, thanks to the helpful advice and guidance of my high school art teacher, Lino Parolin.

As Every Painter Paints Himself, I included cartoon portraits of myself inside my ASL Dictionary. I’m smiling with my Art supplies in the header for the Author’s Introduction and showing the ASL hand sign for WORD on the How the Dictionary Works page. Inside the book are cartoons of me (sometimes in costume) for the ASL hand signs for CARTOON, DRAW, KITCHEN, KITCHENER, THROUGH, and WITHDRAW. For the final page for Acknowledgements a cartoon of me shows my baby cousin the ASL hand sign for SEE.
