WITH OR WITHOUT YOU

The next hand sign dealing with Love is for accompanying, having, possessing, or being in the same place as something or someone. When I started the ASL illustrations that led to making My ASL Dictionary, each word would have its own separate character. That changed when I started drawing this Groom as the hand sign for this proposition. I was so happy with his picture that I kept his character for the 3 associated words. In a Purple Vest and Bow Tie, the Groom smiles contently with his Wedding Ring as he illustrates the ASL hand sign for WITH. The two A hands join together in front of the chest.

For the opposite of WITH, the GROOM appears again, but instead of being without a partner, he is shocked that he has lost his ring. With the skin on his finger left pale by the ring’s absence, he illustrates the ASL hand sign for WITHOUT. The two joined A hands diverge apart, changing into 5 hands.
