MR. FIX IT
2023 marks the 60th anniversary of the BBC program Doctor Who. Showing my support, My ASL Dictionary’s ASL cartoons of the Doctor. The Twelfth Doctor, Peter Capaldi, presented an older brusque, and pragmatic character with hidden compassion and selflessness. This Guitar Hero chose his new face from his past as a reminder that he was the Doctor and could always save people. In a navy blue Crombie coat, his eyes focused on the next challenge, the 12th Doctor shows ASL hand signs for FIX. Quick fingerspelling of FIX or Fingertips of Flat O hands alternately brushes against each other, like putting things together.

I drew the 12th Doctor as the FIX hand sign before his debut in the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special. With all pictures of the new Doctor hidden from the public, I had to turn to an old photograph of Mr. Capaldi with a mustache and beard for reference. After the 12th Doctor began his run, I fixed the illustration with a quick shave to make it look more like the character. ASL having two variants for FIX allows me to show the Cartoon’s Before and After
