2023 is the 60th anniversary of BBC’s Doctor Who. Today is the next post of My ASL Dictionary’s cartoon of the time-travelling protagonist, this time in his fourth incarnation. Playing the role for seven consecutive seasons and countless cameos in film, television, and books, Tom Baker, the Fourth Doctor, is the most recognizable Doctor. With his curly hair, famous long scarf, and whimsical grin, he illustrates the ASL hand sign for INTERPRET. As English is not Universal, the ability to interpret new languages during countless adventures across time and space is as essential as Jelly Babies.
Both F hands touch at the tips of the thumbs and forefingers. The opposite hand stays steady as the dominant hand twists forward at the wrist twice to show a change from one language to another. The INTERPRETER hand sign can also include ending with the AGENT hand sign.
