My Casino Card Dealer’s first job was presenting the ASL hand sign for NEXT. Starting from behind, the dominant hand lifts and jumps over the opposite hand to gesture to the future, its motion, like picking out the next card from a box. While cards in boxes contain recipes, postcards, and flashcards, I went with playing cards and the dealer showing the next card in the deck. Keeping with the Card analogy, The King of Hearts card (showing the ASL hand sign for FATHER) rests in his bandana.
