Yesterday, in anticipation of going to Schlegel Village’s upcoming Pursuit of Passions Gala, I spoke with Riverside Glen’s General Manager, Bryce McBain. While looking at My ASL Dictionary’s book brochure, he asked if I had drawn any staff members. With my friend Shannon Stuart sitting across from me, I opened the dictionary to show him her cartoon showing the ASL hand sign for Coffee.
Shannon was a big help in my dictionary’s creation so I drew a cartoon of her for the book. My ASL instructors gave my artwork approval for authenticity, but Shannon helped me test the pieces to see if they were easy to understand for a viewer new to sign language.
This is a reanimation of Shannon’s ASL hand sign for COFFEE, but upgraded with the changes in fingerspelling and frame order (thanks to my brother Matthew Hurlbut).
S hand shape circles clockwise over opposite S hand shape, the visual of grinding coffee for a fresh cup of joe.
