When I was in elementary school, the only hand signs I knew were French gestures. Being French Canadian on my mother’s side, I grew up with this body language and would often gesture with my hands while speaking, like a visual exclamation mark to the sentence. The character for the Elementary ASL hand sign is a cartoon of my Mount Forest Elementary teacher,
