Yukon’s capital city found its name from the white foam in the nearby rapids that looked like the manes on white horses. The ASL hand sign merges the signs for White and Horse. To represent this city, I drew another character from the self-governing first nations who lived there. His casual dress, however, was based on a photograph of an Anishinabe First Nation grand chief. The animation begins on a background of white like the foam on the rocks but ends in black darkness for the reveal of Yukon’s Northern lights, the Aurora Borealis.
