I started the Animated Word of Day back in May. Its purpose was to promote the artwork from the cartoon dictionary. A side benefit of this animation was getting a refresher course in ASL as I had to concentrate on each sign’s hand position and movement as I brought these still images to life. My next step was to create an advertisement directly promoting the book.
American Sign Language is a language, not a word-for-word English substitute (especially with its historical roots in France). Each hand sign is a visual and a story. The setup of this ad is to visually show the three-dimensional differences between the spoken and the signed word. The image is from the art piece I created for my Author’s website after a research paper on Chuck Baird and the De’VIA art movement he helped create.
