This cartoon prisoner from My ASL Dictionary was originally a 2012 illustration, created a year before I started the dictionary project. For the book’s website, I animated a prison spotlight to dress up the visual of fleeing from incarceration as the Prison Inmate shows the ASL hand sign for ESCAPE.
The extended Index finger pulls free from the middle fingers of the opposite hand, like fleeing from captivity.
