SHOT OF COKE

Coca-Cola/Coke being a brand name, is usually fingerspelled but there is a hand sign for it as well. The motion of jabbing a needle into the bicep isn’t a drug reference but a story one. In the past, when young deaf children would have to go to the doctor for their shot, they would be rewarded with a bottle of Coke. That’s the connection of the shot to the beverage and why the cartoon is a young kid. As I still remember when dentists gave away lollipops for clean teeth, the Coke story is believable.
Special thanks to Lifeprint Doctor Bill Vicars of ASL University for sharing the story behind the hand sign.
