TAKING CARE

For Caregivers Week, I animated one of my earlier pictures from my dictionary, Take Care (also used for Beware).
Dressed in the classic black cape of the older nurses’ uniforms, this caregiver shows off my first lesson for the ASL sign for Care. It is easy to see how illustrating American Sign Language pushed me to be a better artist. In the beginning, many of my pictures had fingers drawn like sticks. Thankfully, over time, I learned to flesh out more care and skill in portraying hand structure in my drawings, A necessity for a project recording a language shaped by the positioning of the hands.n]
