The Design Team of Tellwell Talent is finishing the interior design of my first book, MY ASL DICTIONARY. As the book’s first publishing will be digital, not print, I wanted the search option to remain available in all its formats, kindle, kobo, and eBook. My Dictionary is more than a text manuscript. It is a graphic novel collection of cartoon illustrated ASL hand signs. As devices cannot read the embedded text on images, I first made each page with two layers. The top layer was the image (cartoons, titles, directions, and hints as a single picture), while the bottom layer was the hidden text listing the words on the page. This setup allows any device to locate words for each page. With 1,813 words in American Sign Language, I want the reader to have the option of quickly finding the word they are looking for, leaving the scrolling through the pages for entertainment. Linking the text with the image is the challenge the Tellwell Design Team is working on now.
